AI Card Grading FAQ

1. What is AI Card Grading?

AI Card Grading is an automated system that evaluates the condition of trading cards using artificial intelligence and machine learning. It analyzes various aspects such as centering, edges, and corners to assign an overall grade to each card.

2. How does AI Card Grading differ from traditional grading services?

Traditional grading services rely on manual inspection, which is time-intensive and subject to human error. AI Card Grading automates the process, offering faster, more consistent, and cost-effective card evaluation.

3. What are the benefits of AI Card Grading?

  • Speed: The AI system grades cards in 20-60 seconds.
  • Consistency: Automation ensures consistent and objective grading.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: AI grading is more affordable, particularly for bulk submissions.

4. What aspects of a card are evaluated by the AI?

The AI system assesses the following aspects:

  • Corners: Evaluates the sharpness and condition of corners.
  • Edges: Analyzes the integrity and quality of edges.
  • Centering: Measures the alignment of the card's design elements.

5. What are the limitations of AI Card Grading?

While highly effective, AI Card Grading has certain limitations:

  • Image Quality: High-resolution, well-lit images are essential for accurate results.
  • Physical Features: The AI system cannot assess tactile features or certain types of damage requiring physical inspection.

6. Does the system provide a visualization of the grading results?

Yes, the system generates a visual report highlighting the evaluation of the card's corners, edges, and centering, making it easier to understand the grading details.

7. How is the final grade computed?

The final grade is calculated as the geometric mean of the individual grades for corners, edges, and centering, ensuring a balanced and comprehensive evaluation.

8. Can AI Card Grading be used for pre-grading before submission to traditional services?

Absolutely! AI Card Grading is an excellent pre-grading tool, allowing collectors to evaluate their cards before submitting them to traditional grading services.

9. Will my card receive the same grade from PSA or other grading services as the AI gave?

Based on our testing, the AI tends to be more critical than human graders, particularly when evaluating corners and edges. This is because the AI can detect subtle differences in edge and corner symmetry with a level of precision that surpasses human capabilities.

For example, if your card scores a perfect 10 for centering but receives a final grade of 8 due to issues with corners and edges, it is still likely to grade well with traditional grading services. However, we strongly encourage users to visually inspect their cards for flaws such as surface imperfections or dents, as these might not always align with AI evaluations.

If a card appears flawless upon inspection and achieves a high score from the AI, it is an excellent candidate for receiving a top grade from PSA or other grading services.
